"Greeting people as they enter the facility is more than a handshake and a smile. It is an opportunity to express God's love through Chris and help set the tone of the upcoming worship service. "
Greeters are an extremely important Ministry as research has shown that visitors to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church will upon arrival develop an opinion of our church within the first couple of minutes. It is important that Greeter’s be prepared to effectively communicate words of welcome!
Greeter’s duties include greeting everyone, handing out leaflets, being sensitive to the needs of elderly members, encourage visitors to sign the “Guests of our Church” register, render assistance to those using the lift and ring the bell five minutes before the service begins.
During the service, and at the appropriate moment, the prayer box is delivered to the Priest at the communion rail followed by collection of the offertory. The offertory, gifts of the people (small round silver container and cruet of wine) and written notification of the number of people attending the service are delivered to the server at the communion rail. Following the Doxology, the offertory is immediately delivered to the Envelope Audit Team (EAT) in the lower level of the church.
During the service, and for security reasons, Greeter’s are alert to activity in the cloak room and parking lot. As the door to the lower level is locked, Greeter’s will assist with access.
Upon departure of the congregation, Greeter’s will prepare the church for the next service by removing excess material, putting books in order and placing kneelers in an upright position.
In the event of a medical emergency, Greeter’s will refer to written emergency procedures and assist as required.
In consultation with Greeter’s, and depending on availability, three-month schedules are developed.
Guidelines for Greeter’s are retained in a reference manual located on the credenza at the back of the church.
New Greeter’s are welcome!
Respectfully submitted,
