Wechetowin is the Cree word for “People Helping People” and is a grassroots organization formed in 2006 by the Rupert’s Land Aboriginal Circle. It continues its work envisioned by the Indigenous elders as we work together Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people supporting each other. One of the many ways that this is carried out is through the putting together of Blessing Bags that are distributed to children in transition and women who use shelters in the community.
The following are items we will collect for the blessing bags. If you can help with any of these items it would be greatly appreciated.
Coloring Books and Crayons
Fun activity packs,
Small toys, Stuffies,
Books
Pencils
small notebooks for writing
Mittens/Scarves Comfort Snuggle blanket
We will have a collection box at the back of the church labelled Wechetowin
We have asked Rec. Deacon Tanis Kolisnyk will join us in September to shed more light on what this group does. She is currently presiding in the Interlake and will be available in October.
